Things to Do in Sarasota, Florida
Instead of going to the same-old spots every single time you come to the Sunshine State, why not try something new? Sarasota has tons of outdoor areas, parks, restaurants, cafes, bars, shops, and other cultural attractions that make this one of the best cities to check out for your upcoming holiday. Let’s see a few must-do things during your stay in one of our luxurious condos, apartments, or waterfront homes!
Grab a Bite to Eat for Breakfast
Sarasota is no stranger to fresh food, strong coffee, and a great breakfast/brunch place. Some of our favorites include First Watch, Fresh Start Cafe, and The Breakfast House. We love going to First Watch and getting one of their huge pancakes, topped with drizzled maple syrup, fresh powdered sugar, and creamy butter, and served with a side of eggs your way and bacon. Or you can try one of the more unique and Mexican-influenced dishes, like the breakfast bowl with a sunny side egg, cheese, spices, roasted vegetables, sour cream, and braised meat.
The next day, head to The Breakfast House to enjoy a nice and relaxed meal in this cozy and cool setting. We recommend getting one of the omelets, filled with your choice of vegetables, meat, and cheeses and a side of home fries. Your kids can try something sweet, like the chocolate chip or stuffed blueberry pancakes with fresh fruit, lemon, and ricotta filling! One of the top choices is the house specialty pancakes filled with coconut and topped with freshly grilled pineapple and macaroons.
Check Out the Mote Marine Lab!
No, you don’t have to be a science geek to love going to the Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium in Sarasota, FL! This cool and educational spot is a great idea for a rare rainy or cloudy day when you still want to keep your kids entertained and having a good time on vacation. Located right on the tiny and relaxed City Island, this laboratory and aquarium is open to visitors, featuring numerous marine animals, large sharks, playful otters, super-sized turtles, stinging jellyfish, and much more! You can take photos, watch the professionals perform shark feeding, and even check out some of the native Floridian reptiles.
Big Cat Habitat
The Big Cat Habitat and Gulf Coast Sanctuary is nothing like the problematic Tiger King show that everyone watched on Netflix back in 2020. The people who run this sanctuary offer a peaceful and beautiful alternative to zoos, where animals are kept in cages for most hours of the day. This non-profit organization is open to visitors, teaching tourists about animal care, showing groups around indoor and outdoor habitats, and educating visitors about preservation and conservation.
Ca d’Zan Mansion
One unique and interesting building that is sure to catch your eye is the Ca d’Zan Mansion, home of the circus masters, the Ringlings. The infamous couple lived here as they performed their spectacular and eye-catching performances in the area. And the house itself is truly incredible as well – this large mansion features over 35k+ square feet, large courtyards, multiple terraces, Spanish tiling, and breathtaking architecture that is great for a few photo ops.
Sarasota Jungle Gardens
The weather in Florida is usually sunny and bright – so finding outdoor activities to do during your time in Sarasota is key! We love going to the Sarasota Jungle Gardens to watch the native species, walk around the pristine natural environment, and learn about the local flora and fauna found in the Sunshine State.
After being founded almost 90 years ago, this prestigious area features dozens of types of trees, multiple species of flowers, and bird shows that will keep you entertained during your visit. We love coming here with younger kids and learning more about the reptiles, watching bird-feeding shows, and taking photos with the friendly flamingos.
Grab Some Produce at the Local Farmer’s Market
Last but not least, we love going to the Central Sarasota farmer’s market on a warm summer morning before it gets to the photo! The best part about this outdoor area with tons of stalls is that you can get in some exercise, enjoy the sunshine, and pick out some fresh produce, souvenirs, and local food before it gets too hot in the middle of the day.
Head here any time after 7 am to grab some vegetables for your lunch to make at home, fruits to snack on while you are at the beach and take-away coffee to use in your coffee machine at your accommodation. There are also tasty snacks, like salsa, freshly made honey, and baked goods that are sure to give you a much-needed energy kick!
