The beach is one of the best places to go while you stay in Sarasota, Florida. Not only is it a top spot for those who want to sit on the beach, relax, read a book, and munch on some lunchtime snacks, but we love the idea of spending a beach day with your kids. After all, kids can get bored easily — so bring them to one of the beaches to enjoy the waves and the sunshine!
One of the best beaches is the Longboat Key. This stretch of sand that is located between Sarasota Bay and the Gulf of Mexico offers a cool respite from the ever-popular Siesta Key Beach. And don’t worry, you will never have to fight someone off for the best spot for your umbrella and chairs — this white sand area has over 10 miles of space for you to spread out, relax, and take a nap during a hot summer day.
Another cool spot to come with the kids during your time in Florida is the Brohard Paw Park. Come here if you are renting one of our pet-friendly homes in Sarasota to meet other dog owners, play a game of fetch with your pup, or shower off your dog after they run around in the sand for hours. Plus, this area has a large fishing pier that is great for watching the local fishermen early in the morning.
Last but not least, Coquina Beach is a popular spot for tourists and locals alike. Featuring over 20 acres of public space, this beach on Anna Maria Island is a short drive away from Sarasota. However, we love coming here due to the laid-back attitude of this tiny coastal town. This beach offers amenities, sunbathing, cafes, and much more, making it the ideal day trip for you and your family.

Get a Drink at One of the Local Bars
After spending hours on the beach with your kids, you can now head out to get a few drinks. There are dozens of beaches that are kid-friendly or pet-friendly, so they can suit your unique needs. No matter what you are looking for, whether it’s a nightclub, low-key beach bar, or upscale cocktail bar, Sarasota has it all.
One of the top bars in the Sarasota area is Sage, a bar and restaurant located on First Street that is well known as one of the best local spots to get lunch or dinner. Of course, if you come here on a date night or an upscale benign, we recommend heading to the fourth-floor deck to begin your time here with a nice cocktail. You can see the best birds-eye view of the downtown area and the bright blue waters of Sarasota Bay. The best time to come here is on Friday or Saturday evenings to listen to some of the local bands play upbeat tunes and mingle with other patrons on the cool rooftop.
We also love heading to Dive Wine and Spirits on Clark Road — pay, yes, this is a liquor store. But hear us out — Dive is also a speakeasy! You wouldn’t think it if you were just passing by, but that is what makes the interior vibe so cool and exclusive feeling. Head here to sip on some cocktails served in tiki cups for a true island, coastal vibe. The bartenders here deserve their own shoutout, as these masters are great at producing high-end drinks that are something to write home about. We love coming here for a chill meetup with your friend or an intimate date with your partner.
Another cool spot to check out during your time in Sarasota is Oleary’s Tiki Bar and Grill on Bayfront Drive. O’leary’s is a quintessential stop for those who want to check out a true Floridian bar during their vacation. You are just a few feet away from the white sand beaches and bright blue water as you listen to holiday music. Try one of their frozen drinks, strong margaritas, ice-cold beer buckets, or Mai Tais. After a night of fun, retreat back to one of our stunning Sarasota holiday rentals that provides pure comfort.
Bring Your Kids to the Sarasota Jungle Gardens
There are dozens of kid-friendly things to do during your time in this coastal city. One of the top attractions is the Sarasota Jungle Gardens on Bay Shore Road. Head here to check out some of the local wildlife and marvel at the beautiful plants and flowers. We love bringing our young kids here in the afternoon to have an educational and fun experience! This cool spot also offers exotic birds that are unique to this specific area.
Spend a Rainy Day at the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art
If you are in Sarasota during a rare rainy day, head to the incredible local museum of art to have an educational afternoon. And don’t worry, your kids won’t be bored. This cool museum is named after the infamous circus owners and features exhibits that are just as entertaining as the circus. You can marvel at classical architecture, Renaissance pieces, Greek artworks, and much more.
